This week’s film releases: February 5
“Dear John” (Relativity Media): Two of the hottest young actors in Hollywood, Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried, star in an adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks novel of the same name. Sparks also wrote the novel “The Notebook,” which later became a beloved romance movie. Tatum plays a soldier who falls in love with a college student while home on leave. The theme of the film as well as the book is the meaning of true love. “Dear John” is rated PG-13 for some sensuality and violence.
“From Paris With Love” (Europa Corp.): John Travolta and Jonathan Rhys Meyers star in this violent action film. Meyers portrays an employee of the U.S. Ambassador in France who teams up with a reckless American spy to stop a terrorist attack on Paris. The two become a gun-toting odd couple of sorts as they attempt to protect the French capital. The film is rated R for strong, bloody violence throughout, drug content, pervasive language and brief sexuality.
Recommended: “From Paris With Love”
If you’re in the mood for a mushy, tear-heavy romantic movie, just watch “The Notebook” again. It would be more enjoyable to watch John Travolta run around Paris with a bald head, guns and a bad mouth.
