First student-run gallery begins at Student Center
The Fine Arts League will open the first Ball State University student-run art gallery this month in the Center Gallery at the L.A. Pittenger Student Center.
The first show is entitled “Bookish: On, of and about Books.” The show will feature books that have been artistically altered in some way by adding or taking away from the text and imagery inside. Ceramics, photography and paintings will be featured. The show will on exhibit throughout the month of February.
The Fine Arts League is a group of Ball State art students who strive to give Ball State artists more of what they want including visiting artists, art films, museum exhibits or any other artistic request.
“Our hope is that Center Gallery can provide students with a more professional gallery experience and encourage involvement at every level of the process,” Fine Arts League co-President Braydee Euliss said. “We are accepting exhibit proposals from any student or group of students interested in using the space for visual expression.”
During Thursday’s showcase, students can enjoy music via vinyl in the new contemporary and relaxed environment.
The gallery is run completely by students and will feature art entirely from Ball State students. The show is sponsored by Hannah Barnes, a second-year teacher in the art department at Ball State.
“She has been tremendously instrumental in our being able to get things rolling with the gallery,” Euliss said.
The opening reception is today from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibit will be open daily during the month of February. For more information on the Center Gallery and The Fine Arts League shows, students can visit the gallery or follow their fan page, “BSU Fine Arts League” on Facebook.
