This week’s film releases: March 5
“Alice in Wonderland” (Walt Disney Studios): Director Tim Burton takes on a classic tale with “Alice.” However, Burton is putting his own twist on the story. No longer is Alice a child visiting a magical world, but the now 19-year-old is making her return to reunite with the Red Queen, the Mad Hatter and the Cheshire Cat. Anne Hathaway, Stephen Fry and frequent Burton-fixture Johnny Depp star in the film. It is rated PG for scary fantasy images and situations and, of course, a smoking caterpillar.
“Brooklyn’s Finest” (Overture Films): Actors Richard Gere, Don Cheadle and Ethan Hawke star as veteran New York cops whose lives become connected after destiny strikes. The film balances bloody violence and strong stories about the personal lives of each man. “Brooklyn’s Finest” marks the return of actor Wesley Snipes after a six-year absence from the big screen. The movie is rated R for the usual suspects: violence, sexuality, language and drug use.
Recommended: “Alice in Wonderland”
There really is no other choice – this movie is guaranteed to be a blockbuster. Also, Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter seems to be a part he was born to play.
